Taking Your Date Shopping

We took our $30 the other week and headed to late night shopping at Chadstone (it’s a huge mall, for our US readers…). We had $30 to spend on something lovely for Den. I expected him to hate the idea, but he was quite chuffed that we were spending a night all about him and he wasn’t going to get dragged into dress boutiques or lingerie shops! We strolled around together, did some window-shopping for big ticket items as well, had an ice cream and enjoyed each other’s company.

So, $30 doesn’t sound like a lot of money to spend… Particularly when you’re talking about shopping for a guy… My theory was to take something small that he doesn’t usually splurge on and get a luxury version… we ended up with designer underwear that are the most comfortable Den has ever had the pleasure of wearing (keep in mind he usually buys his in a seven-pack. Nay, I believe it was his mother that last bought him a seven-pack and he hasn’t purchased new ones since.) and I think we’ve had the added bonus of converting him to now only buying nice underwear! Plus, a great hit of retail therapy!

Here are some other options for $30 gifts for your date:

1. Said Underwear
For guys or girls, underwear is a great way to make your date feel sexy and spoiled. Think great brands like Calvin Klein, American Apparel, Kookai, etc.

2. Pyjamas
Another fun one… get rid of your sweetie’s old high school t-shirt that they wear to bed every night and get them some cute PJ pants or a slinky negligee that won’t cost the earth and will make bedtime a lot of fun!

3. Skincare
Luxury shaving creams, bubble bath or body butters are decadent and sensual gifts that you can go home and try out right away…

4. T-shirts
Particularly if it’s sale time, you will be able to find a funky top for a guy or girl if you look in the right stores. Get them something they normally wouldn’t buy, but that you think they look great in!

5. Accessories
Costume jewelry, a handbag, a beanie, a scarf, a cuff… something your date can keep, wear and be reminded of you!

6. Books
Take your sweetie and choose a book for them that might change their life or teach them something new!

Sigh. Wish someone would take me shopping… ahem, HINT, Den! (It’ll never work, he doesn’t read my posts…)

I READ YOUR POSTS… sometimes… ok, maybe not that often.

Maybe I was secretly attracted to the picture of the dude in his underwear???

Thanks for the handy tips Em’s… although you’ve killed the opportunity for me to take you out on a shopping date any time soon!

And as for shopping for chicks on a $30 budget… hmm, I think I’m going to need some more helpful tips… seriously, is it possible to shop for a chick for less than $30 and get her something that she’ll love???

As for the date… yeah it was a lot of fun! Always is when I’m being the centre of attention… and even better having Emma as my personal shopper. I like it when Emma fends of the sales assistants like Beatrix Kiddo to O-Ren’s crazy 88. Gives me a chance to check out fashion without a sales assistant telling me I should buy this or that… can be a little daunting!

As for the undies… there’s nothing wrong with jocks that come in packs of 7 days! Pfft… designer underwear, what is this world coming to!

Although I must admit these new ones, they’re comfy… they kinda cup your guys in a caressing way, you know… snug and safe, but not cramping your style. I do recommend… if you can depart with $30 or one pair!

You know… now looking back at this date idea, I’m thinking subconsciously Emma is really playing dress ups.

I like this date idea! I highly doubt Jon would take me out shopping, but I would love to take him. Of course, I like buying clothes for him, but he would probably appreciate it if I took him tool shopping. He could always take me SHOE shopping ;) Maybe he’ll see this…
