Rove’s little presenting dance got me thinking… It’s amazing the things we’ll do in a relationship. The way Den and I act sometimes, I swear… there’s the silly in-jokes that make no sense to anyone, chasing each other around the house squealing like children, singing silly songs loudly at each other with made-up lyrics (in my case, completely off-key)… I shudder to think of what people would think of us if there were cameras in our home! It’s crazy. It’s also a lot of fun!

And then there’s the pet names. Now, I know it’s not just us… I myself have been known now and in the past as….
* Pie (Pronounced the Croatian way, as in pee-eh… derived from our original nickname Pile which is the Croatian word for chicken.)
* Ollie (weird, considering my name is actually Emma)
* Perfection (awfully nice one… I was dubbed this by an ex, of course I could never live up to it and hence… ex)
* Pummy-Umpkin (don’t even ask. I have no freakin’ clue)
In return, I’ve called boyfriends all manner of names. The latest to stick to Den is Faffy (because he faffs every time we need to leave the house, which is going to require a completely separate blog post).
And as for pet names I’ve heard friends banter to each other, some of the more memorable include Tinky (as in, Tinky Winky the Teletubby… for a boy!), Pookie, Babykins, Precious, Turtle, Snookums, Papi and so, so many more… In fact, one of my favourite sporting events of the year involves the personals in the paper on Valentine’s Day for that very reason. We may even play that particular game coming up for Valentine’s Day in 2010!
So go on,’fess up! What’s your sweetie call you? What do you call them? What’s the most outlandish pet name you’ve ever responded to from a lover?

There are a number that I have for my partner Billy, but my favourites are:
- Throbbler
- Shitlips
- The Fuse
- Lovebunny
I actually loathe all those typical pet names (honey, sugar, darling, sweetie,…) because they feel so fake I guess. People that use those standard issue pet names don’t seem sincere, sweetie doesn’t feel special at all.
My boyfriend calls me “Monster Island” and I call him “Torture thing” (I can’t stand tickling and he loves to tickle, it IS torture) or -mockingly- “Sir”. Not quite ordinary pet names, are they?
